UK Websaver loyalty card helps local high streets fight back
A new loyalty card which rewards shoppers who shop on their local high street is helping independent retailers across the UK fend off competition from the major national chains.
UK Websaver – a loyalty scheme which offers consumers money off everything from a hair cut at their local salon to dinner at their local restaurant – has captured the imagination of retailers and shoppers alike And, says UK Websaver, the card is not only helping retailers attract new customers but is keeping shoppers coming back by offering discounts which can be redeemed in the form of pounds not points. Accepted at a wide range of outlets in high streets throughout the UK, the scheme now extends to businesses such as gyms and florists, taxi companies and local garages as well as shops. Simon Rickett, founder and co-director of UK Websaver added: “The idea has really taken off, with smaller traders in many parts of the UK offering their customers discounts both on-line and off-line. “With Britain entering a period of economic downturn which is impacting on all retailers regardless of size, business owners are being forced to look at new ways of encouraging customers through their doors – and keeping them coming back time and again. “Loyalty schemes, as offered by the major supermarkets, are an excellent way of doing this, but administering your own schemes can be prohibitively expensive for individual retailers. “By joining our scheme, smaller businesses can reap the rewards enjoyed by their large competitors while at the same time promoting each other – and their local communities. Members of the public pay £4.99 for a UK Websaver card – about half the price of other loyalty cards – and within a matter of weeks are seeing their initial outlay recouped in the savings made on goods and services. Simon, who first rolled out the scheme in Nottingham two years ago after spotting a gap in the market, said he was astounded at how quickly the idea had caught on. He added: “They key to UK Websaver’s success is its simplicity. People everywhere love to save money where they can – especially in the current climate where household budgets are being squeezed by bigger food bills, increases in council tax and higher energy costs But choosing to patronise local shops and businesses rather than the multiples is not solely about saving money, believes Simon. He added “Although convenience is often cited as the reason many shoppers choose to shop at major supermarkets, most people realise that they need to support local traders if their local communities are to survive. “No-one wants to see high streets full of boarded up shops and consumer choice restricted to the same big names which often make one town or city indistinguishable from the next. “People enjoy a sense of belonging and by shopping close to home they build a rapport with local traders – all of which allows high streets to thrive and builds a stronger sense of community.”
