Chock Shop is all about creating the most amazing taste experience selling our flavoured brownies. We have also created brownies for grownups laced with flavoured butter creams such as Baileys and Penderyn Welsh Whiskey . Our fabulous range will also appeal to children (our brownies are not just for grown-ups), brownies with amazing Belgium Callebaut white chocolate, Crunchy Peanut Butter, Sticky Toffee and we have even have a Rocky Road Brownie.

Our delicious chocolate brownies have been consumed by thousands of satisfied customers. After a long and successful period trading at festivals, shows and other events, we have decided to expand our business through a franchise model and have sought professional advice from a BFA affiliated consultancy company.

To a degree there is a captive market at shows, festivals, markets and events with the more traditional desert foods being replaced with American-style cookies, cakes and muffins alongside their hot drinks. It is estimated that sales of American-style baked goods have risen substantially over the last few years. The total size of the UK bakery sector is valued at £3.6bn and in 2015 UK consumers bought over 1.5 billion sweet baked items (cakes, cookies, brownies donuts etc.), which was an increase of 5.5% over the previous year.

Awareness levels of food and deserts in the UK remains high and growing, which can be seen from the plethora of TV programmes and articles about the topic. Programmes like The Great British Bake Off has also encouraged this trend of appreciating high quality baked goods

We are looking for individuals who enjoy and prefer working in an outdoor environment and have practical skills. You must enjoy meeting people and attending shows and events throughout your territory whatever the weather. Selling brownies is wonderful during the summer, but during the winter working outside in a market stall can be testing! You need to be resourceful, energetic and great with the customers. We offer a full range of training, so even if you don’t know everything about brownies, you will do by the time we finish with you!

Remember, we give you all the training and expertise required, but a business will not run itself. So, success will also depend on your ability to plan, be organised and self-driven. We will assist you with training and continual support throughout your time as a franchisee, but you must be ready to work to develop and maintain the business. • A five-year franchise agreement with a right to renew at the end of the term

We offer a full training and support programme to assist with the development of these skills. You do however, need to be prepared to work hard, follow our systems and be fully committed to getting the business off the ground in your local area.

Your key role is to plan the events and markets you will be attending and to manage your Chock Shop market stall, and that’s what we expect you to focus on. However, franchisees are responsible for the management of the business on a day-to-day basis. This includes dealing with customers, providing our products, managing staff, maintaining equipment and of course solving any problems that you encounter. There is also an accounts and administration role which you will need to deal with effectively to ensure that the business is run smoothly and monitored regularly. Running a business means lots of hard work, but it will be rewarding in every sense if done correctly and following our guidelines. So if that’s the challenge you’re looking for then that’s the opportunity we can offer you!

There is some flexibility with our franchise so you might want to have more time off in the winter months to relax and re-charge your batteries.

If you want a successful business, then you’ve got to promote it constantly throughout your territory. All franchisees will be responsible for the local marketing within their territory with initial assistance from Head Office. Much of the success of a franchise depends upon the local marketing and awareness building, and it is up to the individual as to how much or how little is invested in their area. But don’t worry, we’ll guide you through the ins and outs of local marketing. It’s easy, because we’ve done it before.

Franchisees buy their supplies and products from the franchisor or its nominated suppliers.

Chock Shop franchisees buy their brownies and other resales supplies from the franchisor or its nominated suppliers. That is the only way to ensure the brownies are baked to a consistently high quality and delicious tasting experience, time after time. More details of the products cost and selling price can be provided when we meet, but an attractive margin is generated for the franchisee.

Our franchise package fee is comprehensive and currently only £10,000 (plus VAT). In addition to that franchisees will need to fund a suitable vehicle and livery if they don’t have one, we think about £1000 should cover a deposit and livery. There may be some other incidental expenses to incur so we think about £12000 would cover everything. We will also help you to promote the business when it is launched. The start-up investment for the business is listed at the back of the brochure and includes everything that you will need to purchase to establish your Chock Shop franchise.

Finance for the business is potentially available from the Franchise Units of the major clearing banks (subject to status and business plan). For a franchise business the banks may be willing to lend up to 50% or 60% of the total capital required. As part of the recruitment process we will help you with information for your business plan and this can be shared with the banks to raise finance (if required).

Based on many years experience we believe that the income that can be generated by the Chock Shop franchise represents an excellent return. When we meet we will have the opportunity to discuss sales and finances in much more detail, however, as a guide only at this stage we think an operating profit (before tax) will be over £30,000.

Year 1 - £40,000 plus in year 2 and over £50,00 in year 3. We have prepared some forecasts showing profits your business could make, based upon our extensive operating experience with our Chock Shop business. We will happily share these with you when we meet.
